Another successful 3 Bridges 10k

On Sunday April 14th the popular 3 Bridges 10k race was again organised by Lancaster & Morecambe Athletic Club.  Blessed with some sunshine and a breeze giving perfect running conditions, 254 runners from across the north-west and further afield enjoyed the race. The route started at the LMAC clubhouse at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and followed the River Lune cycle track as far as the aqueduct, and then back to the start.  This is an almost traffic free route which runners appreciate taking in the Millennium Bridge, the Aqueduct and Skerton Bridge en route.

There were some fast times too with James Johnson’s excellent time of 32 minutes 45 seconds putting him quite well ahead of 2nd place Paul Peters (Sale Harriers) finishing in 33:21. In 3rd place was fast finishing Adam Wilding (Wesham Road Runners) in 34:05.

The top three women also had very good times with Santa Rumniece finishing 15th overall in 41 minutes 44 seconds ahead of last year’s winner Karen Bridge, Vet 50, of Eden Runners in 43:31. In 3rd was another V50 – Elizabeth McNally (Leven Valley) - in 44:17.

The Men’s Veteran Age Group winners were – V40 Lee Parrington (Lancaster & Morecambe AC) in 4th place in 35:20; V45 Graham Dent (LMAC) in 11th place in 41:02; V50 Mark Holgate (LMAC) in 6th place in 36.35; V55 Ian Sadler (Walney Wind Cheetahs) 41:25; V60 David Walker (Lancaster Runners) 40:34; V65 Paul Muller in 7th place in 39:55; V70 Ray Padgett 47:20 and V75 Stepehen Brook (Queensbury Running Club) 54;54.

And the Women’s Vet Group winners were - V35 Kimberley Towler (Bentham Beagles) 50:18; V40 Jayne Perry (Garstang RC) 46:20; V45 Gemma Blackmore (50:24); V50 2nd place Karen Bridge; V55 Deborah Moran 52:46; V60 Carole Walters (Tavistock AC) 48:19; V65 Mary Hewitt (Garstang RC) 55:51; V70 Debbie Bland AireCentre 56:14 and V75 Carol Douglass (Red Rose Runners) 56:41.

These were the other Lancaster & Morecambe AC runners – Timothy Forber 42.34; Gary Atkinson (V50) 44:41 and Faith Firkins (V50) 1:02:32.

LMAC Chairman and Race Director Angus Murray said:

“ We were very pleased to be able to hold this popular race again and even though the Manchester Marathon took place on the same day, we still had more finishers than last year.  There was the usual mix of experienced runners and those who were moving up to 10k from Parkruns and other 5k races and they all appreciated the good weather.

We were especially pleased to welcome a group of 17 runners from the Lancaster University School of Mathematics based in a Preston College who raised £1200 (£1450 including gift aid) for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.  And we were also very grateful to the Institute of Health at the University of Cumbria for providing student physiotherapy students to give runners a free session.

Thank you to all the volunteers and helpers from the Club whose support is much appreciated by the organisers and the runners. Thanks also to our race sponsor, The Runner’s Centre in King Street, the local shop for runners in Lancaster. “
