Very hot weather for 5k race
The second in the Race Series Saturday evening 5k races was run in exceptionally hot conditions last Saturday. The series gives runners a chance to compare their times, over five months, over the same course and is popular with local athletes.
Nearly 70 runners turned up on the hottest day of the year to take part, with Lancaster & Morecambe AC very well represented. The winner was Jonathan Hiley from Wigan but now based in Southampton in a very fast 15:33, only just ahead of Luke Stanyon (15.44) and Steve Hallas from Preston Harriers on 15:47. First three runners for Lancaster & Morecambe AC were Chris Breakell, 1st V45, with a very good time of 17:20; then young Luke Croasdale with an excellent 17:56 and Tony Jewitt with a time of 18:26.
First lady back was Liz Proctor of Bolton Harriers with 18:18, whilst first runner for Lancaster & Morecambe was Jayne Perry in a very good and much deserved personal best of 20:02. She was followed by still improving Laura Morris on 21:05 and Heather Dixon (1st FV40) with 22:02.
Other Club finishers were Calvin Routledge (18:36), James Whitaker (19:02), Paul Smith (19:41); Billy Gardner (19:42), Tom Robertshaw (20:00), Susan Lucas, 1st FV60 (23.33), Anthony Mayson (24.37), Kath Whitfield (25:58), and Helen McGregor (26:56).
The next in this 5k Race Series is scheduled for Saturday July 31st. More information and registration forms can be obtained from Billy Gardner, telephone 01524 60537.
