The race organisers had clearly worked hard to grit the more treacherous parts of the course, and by the time the runners reached the second lap, the snow which initially lay on the course had mostly cleared. Aside from the cold, the running conditions were mainly good although a stiff southerly wind picked up in the last half of the race and made the final three miles hard going.
