Hyndburn Mid Lancs Cross Country Race Report 13/2/10
The 13th of February saw the penultimate fixture of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League take place at Wilson Playing Fields, Hyndburn. The Lancaster and Morecambe contingent was slightly depleted, due to holidays and other commitments, but nevertheless, a total of just over 30 athletes toed the start line for their respective races on the day.
The afternoon kicked off at 12.30PM with the Under 11 Girls Race, where four athletes braved the mud to finish the race. First home for Lancaster was Olivia Clinton, in 12th, just 3 seconds ahead of teammate Molly Newton O’Brien in 14th. These two were backed up Allana Jones in 22nd, and Shannon Perry in 27th.
In the Under 11 Boys Race that followed, just 23 seconds separated the four L&M athletes, with Niall Graham and Liam Hinnigan battling to 17th and 18th positions respectively. These two were followed closely by Joseph Twigg in 24th, and Nathan Slack, in 26th.
First home in the U13 Girls field was Eve Sears in 23rd, followed by Sarah Bell in 29th, whilst in the U13 Boys race, the club was represented by Rafi Scott, in 26th, and Joel Ingram in 28th.
The club was well represented in the U15 Girls event, with athletes ensuring L&M managed 4th team position, keeping their hopes of earning series team medals alive. In a strong field, Paige Clinton managed an impressive 21st position, whilst Hannah Fleet and Alice Tidswell worked together to finish 24th and 25th respectively. The team was completed by Christina Bell in 32nd position. To sum up the strength of the field, last year’s Inter- County bronze medallist, Florie McLeish, could only manage second place, to Eden Runners’ Matilda Lowther.
Despite not having a complete team, the two U15 boys performed well, with James Whitaker, who seems to be improving with every race finishing in 13th position, and Isaac Scott in 24th.
The U17 Men, who before this race led the league, were always going to have a tricky task stopping the oncoming force of Liverpool, Pembroke and Sefton AC, but nevertheless, the team of Adam Bateson, in a fine 6th, Callum Mason, 9th, and Eddie Fish, 17th battled hard, and earned second team position for their efforts.
Annika Jarman continued her fantastic run of form by winning the Senior Race, as well as her Junior Race category. She was joined by Laura Morris in 30th, and Jayne Perry in 32nd to give the senior women 5th place overall. Rebecca Butterfield also represented L&M, finishing 46th.
In the final race of the day, The Senior Men’s Team, consisting of V40 runner up Mark Chippendale, Mark Gardner, 53rd, Eryl Husband, 76th, Peter Twigg ,94th, Chris Warren, 98th, and junior 9th placer Andy Warren, managed an impressive 9th place, whilst the V40 team of Mark, Eryl, Peter and Chris finished in well deserved 5th.
