Burnley Cross Country Report 19/12/2009

A snowy scene met athletes who travelled to Towneley Park, Burnley for the third Mid Lancs Cross Country fixture.

First to race were the U11 girls. First home for Lancaster and Morecambe AC in 28th place was Olivia Clinton followed 18 seconds later by Shannon Perry in 30th place. Seven boys toed the line for the U11 race first home being nine year old Albert Woodburn-Baker in 15th place. Niall Graham was credited with the same time in 16th place. Eight seconds later Joseph Twigg (18th) and Liam Hinnigan (20th) entered the finishing tunnel. Seven year old James McCracken had an excellent race to finish in 24th and he was backed up by Nathan Slack (29th) and Tobi Mustapha who completed his first cross country in 36th place.

Jessica McCracken was the club’s sole U13 girl running; she achieved a credible 47th place in a strong field. The boys however had a complete team and with Daniel Forde in 25th supported by Rafi Scott in 26th, Joel Ingram(31st) and Zachary Mason in 39th. Overall the team was placed 6th.

In the U15 girls’ category Sarah Hodgson was placed 4th. Also competing was Hannah Fleet (26th) and Paige Clinton (33rd). Under 15 boy James Whitaker was placed 22nd in his race and Isaac Scott 31st.

Callum Mason had an excellent race to finish 3rd in the U17men’s race. Also running well was Adam Bateson in 7th. Newcomer Tom Johnes and Luke Hodgson in 21st and 22nd respectively completed the line up. Overall the team achieved second position. Charlotte Rickards was 13th in the U17 women’s race.

Hannah Bateson had an outstanding race, not only winning the junior women’s category but also being placed 1st overall in the senior women’s race. Annika Jarman was 3rd in the junior race and 5th overall. Together with Liz Wignall (6th) the junior ladies team were 1st overall. Hannah and Annika, together Jayne Perry (29th) also won the senior ladies team race. Laura Morris was placed 41st and vet 45 runners Kathy Winrow and Jennie Hodgson were 5th and 15th respectively in their age category.

Junior men David Brown and Paul Hodgson finished 5th and 6th respectively in their age group. Together with Adam Hulme (17th); Mark Chippendale (23rd) Mark Gardner (29th) and Jack Husband (66th) they formed a senior men’s team which was placed a credible 4th. Mark and Jack together with Jules Coleman (71st) and Peter Twigg (105th) were the 6th vet 40 team. Such was the strength in depth of the senior men’s team that the B Vets 40 team consisting of Steve Perry, Mike Peat, David Worthington and Richard Shields achieved 21st position. Jack, Steve and Mike were 6th in the Vets 50 category.
