Saturday 10th October saw the start of the Mid Lancs Cross Country League at Kendal. The club fielded two runners in the U11 girls’ race; Molly Newton-O’Brien who was placed 10th and Allana Jones only 15 seconds behind in 17th place.

A record seven boys lined up for the U11 race. First home in 8th place was Niall Graham. Only 13 seconds behind was Albert Woodburn-Baker in 14th place closely followed by Joseph Twigg (16th) and Liam Hinnigan (17th). Seven year old James McCracken made an impressive start to his cross country career finishing in 33rd place and he was able backed up by Christopher Wadeson (35th) and Oscar Coleman(36th).

Lancaster and Morecambe had four girls in the U13 girls’ event. First home for the club was Sarah Bell in 9th place with Mary Hodgson in 10th place. With Jessica McCracken in 28th place and newcomer Rebecca Howard in 43rd places the team was placed 5th overall.

The U13 boys were also on form. Daniel Forde worked hard for 26th place and was immediately followed by Rafi Scott. Also on form was Joel Ingram (33rd) who together with Patrick McGuiness(47th) brought the team home in 4th place.

In the U15 girls’ category Sarah Hodgson was placed 4th and Christina Bell made an excellent start to the season finishing in 13th place. Paige Clinton coped well with the move up into the U15 age group and was placed 20th. She was backed up by Hannah Fleet in 22nd place. The girls were thrilled with their 3rd place overall.

Illness left the U15 boys’ team incomplete. Nevertheless Isaac Scott (23rd), Thomas Nolan-Barnes (24th) and James Whitaker (29th) all posted solid early season performances.

The club is currently struggling for Year 11 and Year 12 girls to form an U17 women’s team. Nevertheless Charlotte Rickards (11th) and newcomers Isobel Rawlinson (17th) both competed well as individuals.

Last year’s unbeaten U15 boys toed the line this season as U17 men. Far from being overawed by running in the older age group Adam Bateson ran an incredible race to finish 3rd. With Callum Mason in 7th, Liam McGuiness in 14th and Edward Fish in 26th the team once again achieved a victory by an eleven point margin.

The only individual victory of the day came in the junior ladies race where Annika Jarman shrugged off a year of injuries to secure a win. Liz Wignall was placed an excellent 5th.

The second team victory of the day was in the Junior Men’s race where an outstanding run by Jack Modley (4th) was backed up by Jordan Harris in 6th and Paul Hodgson in 9th.

The senior women’s team consisting of Annika Jarman, Helen Booth (21st) and Liz Wignall should be pleased with their 3rd place overall. Also competing in this category were sisters Jayne (27th) and Joanne (33rd) Perry. In the Vets 45 age group Kathy Winrow was placed 8th and Jennie Hodgson 19th.

The Senior men’s team comprising of Mark Chippendale (18th); Adam Hulme (35th); Jack Modley; Mark Gardner (43rd); Allan Gordon (46th); and Jordan Harris were placed an excellent 3rd.
