Athletics
Local athletes have been put in some good performances at recent road races.
At the Blacksticks Blue 10k first Lancaster & Morecambe AC finisher was Laura Gardner, with a superb run of 42m.32 earning her third female prize and 26th overall out of almost 200 runners. In next was Jayne Perry running well in 45m.16, with dad Steve Perry following just a second behind. Another good run came from Sarah Elliott in 49m.12 and next was Robert Preston with a solid run of 49m.20.
Other finishers: Colin Hewitt 49m.58, David Wilkinson 50m.24, Carole Wilkinson 52m.37, Bryan Moulding 52m.55.
The first event in the Lancaster 5k race series had nearly 70 finishers and first athlete for first Lancaster & Morecambe AC was Jack Husband, with an excellent run of 18m.36 placing him 15th overall. In next was the in-form Laura Gardner, finishing second female with a fantastic effort of 20m.06. Laura was well backed up by team mates Zoe Harding running well in 20m.56 and Louise Goddard with a good time of 21m.18. The fast improving Michael Roy ran 21m.05 for 24th position and the ever sprightly Evelyn Elkington ran a super 30m.22 for first veteran 75 place.
