Lancaster & Morecambe AC all but guaranteed promotion at the third NoEAA match at Carlisle and showed how versatile the squad has become over the past couple of seasons. The team finished 2nd place on the day just 1 point ahead of Warrington in 3rd. The team is now only 3 points behind the leaders Liverpool Harriers but 4 points clear of 3rd placed Warrington who now need to win the final match and for L&M AC to struggle but on current form promotion for Liverpool Harriers and L&M AC is the mostly likely outcome.

The mens side continued to show quality with some excellent performances with Multi event Chris Middlebrook taking on the challenge of 6 events with ease. Chris gained 4th in the A Hammer, 2nd in the B event High Jump, 2nd in the A 110m H, 3rd in the A Discus, 2nd in the B Shot and to finish with a flourish he earned 2nd in the A event Javelin with a throw just short of 40m. Joining Chris in the field was injured Captain Mark Gardner. Mark secured a 2nd place in the B event Hammer and then went onto 3rd in the B event Javelin which are a little different to his usual 800m. Chris Thomas making only his 2nd mens team appearance put in a dazzling team performance coming 4th in the A 400m H and 3rd in the B 400m before succumbing to a hip injury. Allan Gordong recovered from a hamstring injury to show why he is always missed when not competing as he took on the 400m H with 2nd in the B 400m H, 1st in the B 3000m Steeplechase, 2nd in the B 110m H and then at very short notice came 6th in the A Triple Jump and to finish heroically 4th place in the A 5000m. The 800m saw Jordan Harris and Beau Smith taking on some tough competition with a quick opening lap the L&M AC athletes held on well to secure 5th in the A and 2nd in the B respectively. The 100m & 200m saw the classy Frank Shepherd dominate and storm to two fine victories with 11.4 and 23.2 showing the field a clean pair of heels. Backing Frank were Dan Harrop and Graham Parsons who both put in determined performances with Dan winning the B 100m with a solid 11.5 and Graham finishing in a blanket finish for 3rd in the 200m with 24.2. Danny Parkinson showed his winning qualities by leading gun to tape in a dominate display in the 3000m steeplechase. Callum Blaikie put in another solid performance with a decent 2nd place and jumped an excellent 1.75m. Also in the field was Ben Ottaway in only his 2nd mens team match. Ben managed an excellent 2nd place in the B Discus and then had to battle for 4th place in the A shot event. To finish the individual events David Brown showed another decent performance for a solid 3rd place in the 5000m B event. The relays saw a magnificent victory in the 4 x 100m and then a workman like performance in the 4 x 400m for 4th place. The womens section showed true fighting spirit with many athletes doubling up and taking part in events which they’d not normally take part in. Super athletes Katie and Claire Huck showed why they continue to be top multi eventers. Katie won the A Long Jump, 2nd in the B Hammer, 2nd in the A 100m H, 3rd in the A High Jump and finally winning the Javelin with a superb string of throws. Claire carrying an injury competed hard and earned 3rd in the A Hammer and 4th in the A Shot. Holly Nelson continues to quietly score massive points and keep the score ticking over. Holly went onto win the B Long Jump, 2nd in the B Shot and finished by winning the B High Jump. Danielle Pye taking part in her first league event of the season showed good form with 4th in the A 800m and then showed quick feet by covering the A 100m and A 200m scoring some valuable points. Jayne Perry also in her first league match gained excellent points by gaining 3rd place in the B 800m and went onto win the B event 3000m. Captain Laura Morris put in an unselfish performance covering the B 100m, B 200m and then the 1500m finishing 4th. Road captain Louise Gardner ran smoothly in the 3000m winning by 40 seconds to then gain excellent points by covering the 400m B for 4th place. Becky Bateson made her debut for the L&M AC team and earned a decent 5th in the A 1500m and then like Louise went onto cover the 400m A event and scored the team valuable points. With the relays to come L&M AC needed to show true fight to secure its overall placing. Both 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m in the womens section did an excellent job coming 4th in both. Thanks goes to the officials Steve & Christine Perry, David Voyle, Lauren Cooper and Gary Parkinson for gaining the club extra points on the day.
