Arnold was 91 years old. Arnold was a founding member, and his contribution to the club spans many decades and roles: athlete, statistician, historian, timekeeper and club committee member. The club sends its condolences to Arnold’s family.
Arnold joined Primrose Harriers in 1949, and was secretary when Primrose Harriers and Lunesdale Athletic Club amalgamated in 1962. In 1965, Lunesdale and Primrose joined with the College athletic club to form Lancaster and Morecambe Athletic Club.
A wonderfully versatile runner, Arnold had successes on the road and track from the mid-1950s taking many titles and club championships. His consistency and commitment were second to none.
Arnold also made an important contribution to Lancaster & Morecambe AC as an ever-present club official as a Grade 1 Timekeeper. If Arnold was on the stand, the times were spot on.
For many years Arnold was helped by his biggest supporter, Mary. Both Arnold & Mary ran the club shop with precision and always happy to support club events. If Arnold & Mary were involved you knew it was going to be a good day.
Arnold's commitment to Lancaster & Morecambe AC has been an inspiration to many of its clubs members. In 2015, on the 50th anniversary of the club, Arnold completed the 50th lap of 50 lap anniversary event marking the clubs birthday. Arnold was surrounded by members young & not so young on that lap, but the love for Arnold was evident.
We’ve lost a friend, fellow member and athlete – one of our own
