INTRODUCTION

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletic Club is one of the largest athletic clubs in Lancashire, with around 300 members. It was formed in 1965 through an amalgamation of smaller local clubs, some of whom can be traced back to 1904 and before. It caters for athletes of all ages, from under 10 to over 70, and covers the whole spectrum of athletics, including track and field athletics, road and cross country running, and fell running.

The Club is based at a purpose built clubhouse at the Salt Ayre Sports Complex, located midway between Lancaster and Morecambe. The athletics facility at Salt Ayre is a floodlit, eight lane, national standard athletics track, and provides the Club with some of the best facilities available to any club in the North West of England for training and for track and field competition.

New members are always welcome. Training nights are held at Salt Ayre every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.30 to 8.00 pm, where there are several groups of athletes of all ages and abilities training on the track or out on the roads. If you are interested in joining, simply come along to Salt Ayre at around 6.30 and speak to any of the club officials who you will find gathered around the clubhouse entrance or near the running track. Alternatively, phone the Club Secretary, Heather Watts, on (01524) 811996 for further details.

The Club caters for athletes of all ages and abilities, but prides itself in particular on the support it gives to younger athletes (see our section on Club Mark). Call down to Salt Ayre on any Tuesday or Thursday night and you will see several groups of keen youngsters training under the supervision of the Club's qualified coaches. Prospective members can join in the training for a few sessions to see how they like it without any obligation to join.

The Club provides a comprehensive level of competition for its athletes. It is affiliated to UK Athletics through the North of England Athletics Association (NoEAA), and is an active member of the Mid Lancashire Cross Country and Track and Field Leagues, and the Northern Men's Track & Field League. It also organises a number of local road races, including the "Keep on Ticking" and Festive 4k Fun Runs in June and December each year, and the popular Three Bridges 10k in April and the Lancaster and Morecambe 10k road race in July.

A new introductory leaflet has been produced and sets out key rules and policies for new and existing members.
