Lancashire Sportshall Comp 1 - 8/11/15

On Sunday 8th November a small contingent of 12 Lancaster & Morecambe AC Junior Athletes travelled to Blackpool for the first round of the Lancashire Sportshall League.  Despite being such a small team the athletes gave everything they had and finished a credible 5th overall out of 7 teams.



In the U11 Girls events Kirsty Maher competed in the 1 lap - 13.3 sec; 3 laps - 41.2 sec; Standing Long Jump - 1.59m and Speed Bounce – 47. Young Olivia Holgate demonstrated her talents in the 1 lap - 13.9 sec; 3 laps - 45.7 sec and Standing Long Jump - 1.59m. In the Vertical Jump – 39cm she finished an excellent 5th. Alana Smith, an experienced sportshall competitor achieved - 1 lap - 13.6 sec; 3 laps - 41.9 sec and in the Standing Triple Jump she finished 3rd with a distance of 5.17m.Overall the U11 girls finished in 7th position.


By far the strongest age group were the U13 Girls. Freya Burgess, who already holds a county Vest for Sportshall achieved - 2 laps - 25.1 sec; Vertical Jump – 45cm; Speed Bounce – 73 and Shot Putt - 5.87m.

Temi Mustapha shone taking 2nd place in the 2 laps - 24.3 sec; 1st place in the Vertical Jump – 54cm; 1st place in the Standing Long Jump - 2.07m and 3rd place in the Shot Putt - 7.47m. Unsurprisingly these results earned her the U13 girls’ athlete of the match award. Newcomer Elysha Collins set a good standard with 2 laps - 26.1 sec; Standing Long Jump - 1.70m; Standing Triple Jump - 5.03m and third place in the Speed Bounce with a score of 78. Eleanor Rowe competed in 2 laps - 25.5 sec; VJ - 39m and in the  Standing Long Jump finished 6th- 1.87m (6th) and in the 4 laps finished 2nd - 54.4 sec. Alice Hunt competed in the- 2 laps - 27.2 sec; 6 laps – 1.33 mins; the Standing Long Jump - 1.55m and the Vertical Jump – 33cm. County Sportshall athlete Holly Halton was 6th in the 4 laps - 55.6 sec; won the Standing Triple Jump  - 6.10m ; and recorded  Speed Bounce  - 73 and Shot Putt - 5.68m. In the  4 X 2 lap relay Temi, Eleanor, Alice and Freya  won their heat in 1.40.09 sec and were 2nd overall beaten by Preston with a time of 1.40.00 (less than 0.1 seconds). Overall the girls finished 2nd out of 7 teams.


The only U15 Girl competing was Imogen Graham who completed the 2 laps in 26.1. She was 2nd in the Vertical Jump – 44cm; won the Standing Long Jump - 2.05m and was second in the Shot Putt - 6.19m. 


U11 boy Freddie Pearson continued to show his all-round form winning the 3 laps - 38.6 sec; completing the Standing Long Jump in 7th - 4.81m; winning the Speed Bounce –recording  60 and taking 4th in the Javelin - 17.25m.


U15 Boy Jack Tipler took 3rd in the 2 laps - 23.6 sec ; 6th in the Standing Long Jump - 1.98m and 4th in the Shot Putt - 6.09m .


The next Sportshall competition is on the 13th of December and the club is hoping to put out a larger team.


Meanwhile, Heidi Murray was braving the elements at the Red Rose League Cross Country Fixture at Hynburn where she took 3rd place in the U17 Women’s race.
