Junior Athletes 8-16 -
Lancaster & Morecambe AC’s junior athletes are coached by qualified and CRB checked coaches. Junior training adheres to the principles of Long Term Athletic Development to achieve optimal training, competition and recovery throughout an athlete’s career, particularly in relation to the important growth and development years of young people. If a long term approach to training is not adopted there is likely to be a plateau in performance, when growth and development slows significantly.
We wish to see all our athletes develop gradually and so do not push for them to be events specific until they have developed foundation skills in all athletics areas. Young athletes move through the structure until they have the skills to progress safely. Athletes aged between 8 – 15 join the England Athletics Development Scheme "Athletics 365" until our qualified coaches feel the young person is ready to move to an event group.
We have a large number of athletes in certain age groups and as such we are currently operating a waiting list for some age groups. Athletes whose parents are able to support the club in this way will receive priority on the waiting list.
Clubmark is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections.
